Soooo...... what got us going in glass? Three kids, 29, 26 and 18. Two weddings, one July '04, one October '04. A high school graduation in June '05, my retirement in June '05... a move to downsize in Oct '05..... um... it's gonna be kinda busy, what the heck ya thinki'n... taking on another task??
Margaret loves to garden, but knee deterioration and a husband whoreally doesn't like (sorry, sweetie) putzy yard work is taking its toll. Don't get me wrong... I'll have a great yard, but I don't want a deep, personal relationship with the blades 'n bugs? I'm more of the gadgets, tools, motorcycle and mechanics guy. I like to organize and create one of a kind really neat things.... taught middle school shop classes for 34 years. 1,2,3,4,5...... yup 10, still all there! Glass seemed like kind of the next logical step?

I had a few acquaintances who were doing stained glass and that is where my interest evolved. As to when I started – for the last 5 years, my husband has an affinity for being hospitalized around my birthday – 1999 kidney cancer (and the removal of the kidney) and incision hernia (due the removal of the kidney). We hoped that all his hospital days were over, so he bought me a set of lessons at my local stained glaziers in Spring, Texas.
Well, my husband went on a business trip to Atlanta, Georgia five days before my birthday, the class was to start the day after my birthday – not one day into their biz trip and he has a heart attack during the night in the hotel. He can't fly home for the double heart bypass surgery, as he is too ill, so he has it in Atlanta. The day he is to have his surgery, is the first day of my glass course !! He told me I couldn't be of any use to him in Atlanta – and to go do the classes. Five days after the surgery, he flew home with a colleague. That was in 2002 – we are both happy that he has recovered well.

I always admired my neighbor's stained glass hobby, and thought I would like to try that. Then a friend in California started doing it. Again, I thought that I would like to start doing that SOMEDAY. When I found out I was going to have surgery, my friend in California said 'You should take a stained glass class now, then when you have your operation, you can foil while you are recovering, because you can only read so much!'
So I did. I absolutely love it. I have taken beginning stained glass, and lead glass panel. They offer many different venues of stained glass projects and I hope to take all of them… someday.
