My husband and I both appreciated the beauty of stained glass in the old houses we would see in the neighborhood. There was a stained glass store we visited in Munster, Indiana and the owne was so nice and easy to talk with. I wanted to take lessons and my husband (at first) said I could take them then teach him. Well I said, 'No way, your taking them with me.'
We enjoyed our classes and my husband even did some freehand pieces for our attic windows. This was over 5 years ago and we are still doing stained glass.
I've done a Betty Boop in overlay, cats, pumpkins and others. My husband has done a witch, cherub, tissue holders and many other things. In fact, anytime we see a picture, our first thoughts are, 'Can this be done in stained glass?'
We did have to stop for a couple of years when we moved from Indiana to Florida. But we now we are back enjoying the fun of stained glass.

I bought my first books, tools and supplies August of 2003, that was only 11 months ago.
I learned from Information on the Internet, and in books. Other than that, I'm basically self-taught.

First, SGN gives me a huge amount of pleasure, suggestions and updates in many areas of working in stained glass. Thank you but too bad we can't get it year round and sent to our homes.
I was a very young girl attending church with my great aunt and was totally mesmerized by the colored windows. I asked, 'What kind are those windows' and she replied, 'Those are called stained glass windows.' Needless to say, I fell in love with stained glass. I always dreamed of the beauty, serenity, how's and why's of stained glass.
As I was leaving a hair appointment, I noticed across the lot a building stood with stained glass objects in the window so I ventured in. I was awe struck at the numerous items thus prompting many questions. I discovered the proprietress of this little shop gave classes in the art of making such objects. The owners were so knowledgeable, kind, helpful and understanding. I spent months nagging my husband about signing up to begin (in 1998) my long waited dream with stained glass. It is such a beautiful therapeutic hobby, I truly enjoy.
