My answer
to your question of advice to a beginner don't start with too
big of a project to get overwhelmed. Start small and build up to a more
complex project, but don't be afraid to just dive into the project your
heart wants to do.

I struggled with my soldering technique for 3 years
and then I rented a soldering video by Vicki Payne from the library.
They had to get it on loan but it was worth the wait. I am doing so
much better since watching it. Thank you, Vicki Payne.

I've been doing stained glass for about 10 years....
My best bit of advice....."Its not a mistake...its
a learning experience! Now, I know that a lot of this "learning
experience" is thrown in the trash....but you'll never do it again!

The most
helpful piece of advice I would give to a beginner in stained glass
is: Don't become discouraged and never give up.
When I first started working in stained glass, I broke
a lot of glass and had a lot of cut fingers. My soldering skills were
terrible. Eventually, I gave up and sold all my equipment. A few years
later I took another (better) class, bought better equipment and just
kept at it because I loved the hobby.
Now, just a few years later, my skills are very good,
and I have sold hundreds of dollars worth of my work. I have beautiful
stained glass windows in our home and I am never short on gifts for
any occasion. I always enjoy a new challenging pattern or the discovery
of a new type of glass, a new tool or technique so it never gets boring.
As an added bonus, whenever I feel stressed, I just
escape to my workshop for a while and experience the joy of creating
something beautiful, which quickly soothes my soul. Good luck!
